We are so proud of the writing we have done this year. We write more, know how to write interesting topic sentences, use nonfiction text feature (photos, bold word, text boxes, etc), and know when to use linking works when presenting our big ideas. The big take away from all this writing is that we have learned to try out our new ideas and know that it's okay if we make some mistakes along the way. Remember: "Birds (and people) don't fly, they just fall down and get back up...Nobody learns without getting it wrong!" (Do you recognize that quote? If not, you will soon!)
HURRICANES
ReplyDeleteImagine you are sitting on your couch watching TV when all of a sudden you see a Hurricane coming straight for you! A hurricane is the result of a storm that reaches high wind speed up to 74 miles per hour or more, and heavy rain. Hurricanes start over the Atlantic Ocean. Hurricanes can reach speeds up to 155 miles per hour (that is a category 5 Hurricane).Hurricanes can affect the environment and can be very dangerous, also be prepared.
Hurricanes can destroy houses, power lines, entire cities, and properties. Hurricanes destroy houses because Hurricanes start over the Ocean. When the Hurricanes swirls around it makes the water surge. Surge is when the water goes over the land and brings stuff like logs. Also it causes flooding. Water makes houses get mold, mold is very bad for houses. Another example why Hurricanes can destroy houses is because it can pull down power lines, and the power lines can fall on houses. Same thing happens to trees. That is also how it destroys entire cities, and properties.
Hurricanes can also kill and injure people and animals by things falling on them and the water could drown them! Also loges, power lines, buildings could fall on them tables, and knifes could cut off body parts, and that could badly affect someone.
Lastly, be prepared one way you can be prepared, is you can store food (can food) have a charged phone. Also have a first aid kit, and other supplies such as water bottle and important medicines
Now you know the affects and how dangerous a Hurricane is. If you ever see one evacuate (leave) if told or be prepared.

Hurricanes can cause a lot of damage to your house and big buildings because of trees falling on your house because of the hard wind and strong rain.
Hurricanes can also cause really bad injures and also death. If you are in a hurricane zone you should stay away from your windows. Because of your car door is trapped inside of your car.
People need to be prepared for any tip of storm also a hurricane you need a box that has a safety cite with a bottle of water.

Fun Fact Hurricane Andrew destroyed many homes.
Imagine you were sailing in the sea and then a giant cloud appears out of nowhere. This is called a hurricane. A hurricane is a giant cloud that forms over the sea or ocean. Hurricanes can also effect people in many ways by destroying trees, coastlines, electric wires, and many other things.
First, hurricanes can destroy property. Like it can destroy your house. But then you won’t have a house to live in. And then you won’t have beds to sleep in because it would be destroyed.
Next, hurricanes can hurt people and animals because they could be injured or die. They could die from the strong winds. Or they could be in critical damage. If they are in critical damage it means the people or animals are in the vet or hospital for a long time.
Now, if you want to be prepared for hurricanes you need to at least have a bottle of water. And something else you really want is food. And you really want a radio with you. You might also might want to bring your pets and toys with you.
Finally, that’s why hurricanes are dangerous. And never I say never go outside. Unless someone on the radio tells you.

Imagine seeing a big heavy wind storm coming toward you! This is called a Hurricane. Hurricanes are the result of large windstorms that are really strong, these windstorms can take down anything of yours. Hurricanes are very dangerous and are known for affecting people and animals in many ways. I’m going to be telling you all about hurricanes.
What can hurricanes destroy? Hurricanes destroy property special to you. Hurricanes also destroy a building, a house, trees and your power for electricity. If hurricanes destroy your house and you are in that house you could get killed or injured. Some hurricanes even form floods, and maybe tornadoes.
How do hurricanes kill or injure people and animals? Hurricanes wind is very strong so if people get caught in that wind the wind can carry you near the hurricane. People and animals get killed by hurricanes. That’s why hurricanes are really strong. Some people survive in hurricanes by staying in there house. People find a great spot to hide in and shut the door really tight. If you have a lock then lock your door and still shut the door really tight. That’s one reason why people stay safe
How do people be prepared?
You can be prepared for a hurricane by using:
1. Bottled water
2. First aid kit
3. Medicines
4. A portable radio
5. 1 or 2 flashlights
6. Extra batteries
7. Blankets
8. Protective clothing and shoes
I think that’s all you need to be prepared for a hurricane or for the end of the hurricane. If you have some of those things then at the end of the hurricane you could try and find some of these things.

Why are hurricanes so dangerous? You may ask, well that is because hurricanes can destroy buildings, properties cities, trees. And leave them in the dust!
Hurricanes can cause fatalities or hurt people and animals you could say “hurricanes are so dangerous we will all die!” Well, one thing you can do to stay safe is to make an emergency kit with stuff you may need such as a water bottle, first aid kit, portable radio, important medicines, blankets, good clothing, extra batteries, one or two flashlights.
Each and every one of these things are important. You need these items to help you. And remember if you don’t evacuate you will die
Just so you know evacuate mean to leave and watch for fallen wires, and remember to board up the windows and do not board up the door but lock it and hold it shut. Bring toys and pets inside, don’t drink faucet water. One more thing to do when a hurricane comes and that is don’t panic!!!
You may want to know how a hurricane is formed, well, hurricanes are caused by water vapor that rises from the sea. So by now you should know what to do when a hurricane comes and that is…PANIC!!!

Why are people so afraid of hurricanes? What makes hurricanes so dangerous? Hurricanes are storms that include high speed winds, heavy rains, and storm surges. Hurricanes can cause a lot of damage and can injure people and animals. People can be afraid of a hurricane because they would deal with losing loved ones, and homes.
One way that hurricanes are dangerous is it can destroy homes, people, and can cause fatalities. It can hurt people by killing their loved ones (family). The water can be too heavy on people and animals that could. Another way it can injure people and animals, they both can get injured by the hurricane and the flooding. A lot of hurricanes can cause flooding which causes fatalities and it can injure people badly, and animals.
People need to be prepared for a hurricane to come. If people are prepared for a hurricane then they would not be so scaird. When a hurricane is coming, a meteorologist can tell you on the radio. He might say “We are going to have a hurricane. Be prepared for the hurricane. You will need: Food, water, and clothes and Get to a tall building fast!!!!” It takes years to recover from the hurricane and billions of dollars.
